Part 2 of our review of various ice creams you can find at grocery stores in Korea.
Honey Yuja:
Pre-research:
“What is that flavor? I’ve had it but I can’t remember.” -Kyle
“This particular taste reminds me a little bit of peach oatmeal.” -Briana
Post research:
“Orangey, tangerine, glaze, marmalade-like. Yeah, now that I know that, it has that citrusy flavor. Think of it in the context of like chocolate oranges, it tastes like that.” -Kyle
“If you type in honey yuja in google images and look, it tastes just like you would think it does based off the pictures. I like the cone too just like other ones like it. I also enjoy how there is still chocolate at the bottom of the cone.” -Briana
Watermelon Bar
“Tastes like a watermelon, pretty much. It’s obviously an artificial flavor but there are chunks of something, at first I thought it was chocolate, like the seeds, but it doesn’t quite taste like chocolate but I can’t figure out what it is… Oh I think it’s peanuts.” -Kyle
“It’s so funny! It looks like a watermelon! The taste is pretty artificial but good. Yeah, I guess those are little chocolate nuts that are imitating the seeds. You wouldn’t think it works but it does.” -Briana
Ice cream Bar with Animal Pictures on it
“It’s hard to say because it is so cold. It is red bean, it’s definitely red bean. It starts off sweet and is alright but the after taste that follows is definitely red beans. I can see how it is an acquired taste.” -Kyle
“It makes me think of eating the skins of a bean except it is really icy. I cannot even bite it and, unlike Kyle, I have been able to bite all of the other ice creams. It is not as bad as the other red bean one but it is still not what I look for in an ice cream bar.” -Briana
Crunky Bar
“It’s good. Soft vanilla center and a hard shell with cookie crumbles.” – Kyle
“Mmm. I like the crunchy chocolate outside. Good ice cream bar.” -Briana
Coffee (unnamed ice cream)
“It’s good, it’s got a pretty strong coffee flavor. The chocolate’s a little underplayed. It almost has like a peanut butter taste to it as well. Interesting texture because of the ribbons of chocolate shell.” -Kyle
“It’s definitely coffee ice cream! Luckily for me, I like coffee ice cream! Yum! I agree about the texture. There is a crunchiness like a shell in parts of it. Good.” -Briana
Chocolate Ice Cream Waffle
“Mmmm. Pretty good. It is like a waffle cone on the outside. The thick layer of chocolate at the top is great. The vanilla ice cream is good too.” -Briana
“All in all it’s good but I’m a little disappointed in the waffle shell. It’s less like a cone and more of.. what do you call it?.. a wafer and I’m not a big fan of wafers. I mean it’s good all in all.”-Kyle
Shark Fruit Bar
“It looks different than I expected. It is a different taste than I expected too. The inside surprised me as well. The taste is good, though. The outside is a hard ice and the inside is a softer jelly ice.”-Briana
“I like this. It’s like a popsicle around a sherbert.” -Kyle
Strawberry Ice Bar:
“The stick is different from what I expected. The ice cream bar is pretty good and pretty much what I expected.” -Briana
“It’s a good strawberry ice cream. Curious what is in the handle.” (It was gum). -Kyle
Walnut bar:
“It’s really good. It tastes like butter pecan… But filled with walnuts.” -Kyle
“So soft. Very good taste immediately. It does taste like butter pecan. We will be getting this one again.” -Briana
Milk Mix Cookie Chip Chocolate Shell
This is not the real name for this ice cream bar but these are the only English words we found on the package.
“My initial opinion of the outer layer was that it tasted kind of like sour ice milk (possibly because it was expired). When I bit in I first encountered a layer of chocolate and then I found that it is a shell for a cookies and cream-like ice cream. Getting better. They like to layer their ice creams here, it seems. I definitely like the inner part and as I ate more it was all good together. As I got to the bottom the chocolate shell did disappear which I thought was strange.” -Briana
“I like it. It’s nice that it’s got the 3 different layers and it’s cool that it has the shell inside the layer of ice cream.” -Kyle
