A lot of the desserts, candy, etc. we are used to are either not here or are a little on the expensive side here, at least for us. Luckily, the local grocery store sells slightly expired ice cream bars for about the equivalent of 25-75cents (we mostly get the 25 cent ones) so we stock up every time we go to try new Korean ice cream! Sometimes we go to the store just to get more ice cream (and flavored soju). We are going to attempt to provide our honest reviews of these ice creams. Some of them are delicious and other we think.. take time to acquire a taste for.
Red Bean Ice Bar
“I mean, it doesn’t taste bad but it pretty much tastes exactly what you would expect of taking red beans and putting them in some kind of ice cream. It is like if you were in Mexico and someone took some refried beans and put them with sugar and froze them and was like this is a dessert. No. It doesn’t taste good.” -Kyle
“Ew! There are really beans in it. Why would you put beans in ice cream? It is also very hard. I don’t know what I was expecting. Now I am not sure I am interested in the other red bean desserts.” -Briana
Honey Butter Bar
“I am pretty sure this is literally a stick of butter. And honey. That is what it tastes like. That is what it looks like. It’s good.” -Kyle
“This tastes like banana to me. Like, if I didn’t know any better I would have guessed it was banana-flavored. Maybe mine is more expired than Kyle’s. I do taste a little honey.” -Briana
Strawberry Mix Cookie Chip White Sweet Shell
“Great strawberry outer layer! The next layer is really hard! But it is good and tastes like white chocolate. I like all of the different textures.” -Briana
“It’s good. It’s basically the same as another one except it is strawberry.” -Kyle
Caramel Bar (or so it would appear):
“Mmm! This is good! It has a good texture and taste. It tastes like butterscotch and caramel. Nice, frozen treat.” -Briana
“It’s good. Pretty much tastes like caramel ice cream.” -Kyle
Macaron Ice Bar
“Pretty good and creamy, lots of tiny bits of food and stuff.” -Kyle
“Creamy and good. When I bite in there are little pieces that taste like cake, some more crunchy little pieces. There is more jam-like filling which goes down the center. Pretty interesting.” -Briana
Crispy Crunch and Sweet Strawberry
“It’s good. It’s like an eclair. That’s like the type of ice cream I would get a lot of times back in school.” -Kyle
“There is a good crunchy layer on the outside on top of a chocolate layer with white ice inside and a strawberry ice/jam thing inside. I like it.” -Briana
Double Bianco
“It was good. Not exceptional.” – Kyle
“There was a little spoon hidden at the bottom. We had one that was half vanilla, half chocolate on top with chocolate syrup. The ice cream was alright, not bad, but like Kyle said, not exceptional. At the bottom was sorbet which kind of threw us but the sorbet was pretty good. I thought it might be lemon but then Kyle suggested it may be cherry. I am not sure, really.” – Briana
Choco Fudge
“Good. It’s fudgy.” -Kyle
“Yum! I love fudgsicles! This is a good ice cream bar.” -Briana
Goo Goo Cone Caramel and Marshmallow
“So far it’s the best. Caramel-ly. It’s good.” -Kyle
“Yum! I can taste the caramel and marshmallow and there is almost this coffee taste to it too. There are nuts on top and it is creamy and there is has that great feature of having chocolate at the bottom of the cone.”– Briana
Not sure of name: ice cream chocolate nutty outside
“This is pretty good. It is similar to what I would expect from the package. It is refreshing.” -Briana
“Good, peanut butter-y. Not the highest quality. I’d say that it is obvious it is processed ice cream but it was good, decent.” -Kyle
