Kuala Lumpur surprised us by becoming one of our favorite cities to visit. Somehow, we keep finding ourselves back in Malaysia and taking in the phenomenal capital city. We’ve spent a total of a month in the region. Three weeks were spent in Petaling Jaya in January 2016 and one week was spent in Bukit Bintang in May 2016, we also spent two days in Cyberjaya during a long layover in September 2018.
Kuala Lumpur: A Visual Tour
One of my favorite places was the balcony of our Airbnb in Bukit Bintang. The views overlooked the Petronas Towers and offered a beautiful view of the city skyline.
Kuala Lumpur is prone to sudden downpours and here we were caught at KLCC Park during a late spring squall.
The Petronas Towers are iconic in Kuala Lumpur. Though we didn’t go to the observation deck, the views were no less spectacular.
We were caught in another storm while hiking in Bukit Nanas. As the rains cleared, we were presented the beautiful tranquility of the rainforest after the storm.
Despite its relatively small size, Bukit Nanas has plenty to offer to anyone who visits, like this hibiscus.
From within Bukit Nanas, the Cathedral of St. John can be seen amongst downtown Kuala Lumpur.

Hindu women descend stairs at Batu Caves. The caves house a Hindu temple and is the location of one of the largest Thaipusam celebrations in the world. It was one of our favorite places to visit in Kuala Lumpur.

Street Art in Downtown Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is undergoing rapid change. You never know what you’re going to find just around the corner – a new apartment highrise or maybe an old storefront.
The Kuala Lumpur Police Station displays the mixing of cultures, evident in the architecture.

In 2018, two years since our prior visit to Malaysia, we had a long layover in Cyberjaya, just outside of Kuala Lumpur. With only one day to spend, we chose to explore Putrajaya and check out the Pink Mosque. The mosque, capable of holding up to 15,000 is constructed of pink granite and overhangs a lake.
